Lab Information

The full inspector panel of control and measurement variables for configuring hand jitter. The in-application configuration panel for setting up the conditions of a test. Objects can be marked as 'cold' and will induce hand jitter in proximity to them.

About the Project

During the summer of 2023, I worked under a PhD student in UF's INDIE Lab, a human-computer interaction-centric research lab, developing a prospective study application. The area the study may examine in the future is whether jittery hand movements within a VR setting may induce feelings of cold or fear in the real life user, and whether similar hand tremors may be observed in reality as a result of the virtual ones.

I had no exposure to VR development before this project; it was a great experience to work in a lab with VR hardware and receive a different type of feedback (research-oriented) than I was used to, as it helped me consider new perspectives of my work. I was the sole developer on this application; the other undergraduates under the doctoral student I worked for were working on other prospective studies or helping run active ones.

Programming Accomplishments

  • Programmied immersive hand jitter systems configurable to different speeds and rotation types

Other Accomplishments

  • Learned the basics of Unity VR development
